We are pleased to spotlight Steve Leung Design Group (SLD), the eponymous firm founded in 1997 by the internationally renowned architect, interior and product designer. The award-winning firm has been recognised on numerous occasions for prestigious accolades, including the number one residential design firm in the world by Interior Design Top 100 Giants from 2016 to 2020 and the Winner of the Andrew Martin International Interior Designer of the Year Award 2015, dubbed as ‘the Oscars equivalent of the design world’.

SLD’s highly anticipated and most recent launch includes Club C+, its first exclusive Social Lounge in Hong Kong. Nestled in the vibrant neighbourhood of Central district and among Hong Kong’s most exclusive venues, this premium private social lounge brings guests upon a unique journey of exquisite discoveries, curated to the unique preferences of elite connoisseurs. For this project, Steve Leung translated his highly personal and signature aesthetic into a bespoke luxury destination reminiscent of home, and fuses Chinese contemporary design and British accents into a speakeasy-inspired venue for the most exclusive clientele and prestigious private events. The name ‘Club C+’ subtly recalls the hidden meaning of ‘private home’ in Chinese (私家), emphasizing the secluded privacy and utmost comfort of this exclusive space, where luxury connoisseurs can indulge and bond over traditional Cantonese delicacies, fine wines, rare cigars, and exceptional art pieces.

The Shangri-la Hotel, at The Shard, London, is another example of a contemporary icon by Steve Leung with touches of Oriental elegance in its design. Chinese ink paintings are seen throughout the location, from the Entrance Lobby to the Guest Rooms, and the F&B outlets, exhibiting traditional Chinese elegance with a subtle glamour. The Guest Rooms in particular, reinterpret the essence of Chinese Arts in a modern and abstract way, with the ambience of cozy tranquillity from the soothing turquoise and wood colour scheme, as well as the mood lighting. An array of refined materials and colours harmonize the interiors, revealing the understated grandiose amid an impeccable environment.

The essence of traditional Chinese philosophy and principles continue to tie in with Steve Leung’s design thinking and approach, which is simple yet refined, practical yet with an artistic sensibility. Steve believes that good design is human-centred (以人為本), striving to create a perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality to serve people in the best way possible and improve the quality of everyday life. His designs are also characterised by The Golden Mean (中庸之道), which in ancient Chinese philosophy, describes the beauty of moderation between two spectrums, bringing refined quality within upscale projects through an approach of understated luxury.
