This special month is the season for fostering solidarity and observing the valued compassion. Embrace the month in the company of family and friends at The Westin Kuala Lumpur’s Citarasa Anak Kampung buffet spread from March 24, 2023 to April 19, 2023.
Exquisite indulgences await diners as the vibrant flavours and aromas of Malaysian kampung cuisine come to life at The Living Room. From family favourites to special occasion dishes, the all-day dining restaurant buffet dinner experience showcases its seven chef’s hometown flavours and homemade recipes.
The seven chefs bring out signature dishes reflecting their true anak kampung spirit and favourite dishes of their hometown.
Anak kampung Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Chef Hamid Buyong presents Kambing Golek Nasi Briyani. Nasi Briyani recipe is inspired by Chef Hamid’s Indian and Arabic Chef friends. The rice is prepared with spices and rice cooked slowly in a cauldron over an open fire in a traditional way. The lamb is cooked after 24 hours of marinating with 12 types of herbs and spices. The marination recipe is inspired by his late grandmother. This kampung dish is accompanied with saffron egg, salsa and tamarind sauce for a unique touch.
Chef Hafizi, anak kampung Tangga Batu, Melaka offers his kampung’s famous Portuguese Baked Whole Salmon, Melaka signature, specially created spices, inspired by his late grandfather, 20 years ago.
Chef Iqbal, anak kampung Kuala Lipis, Pahang presents Ayam Opor and Daging Dendeng Berlado, the most sought-after menu back at his hometown. Ayam Opor recipe is unique in its own way, inherited from his mother during Hari Raya and is often enjoyed with ketupat and lemang. The Daging Dendeng Berlado is also an integral dish served at Malay weddings in Pahang. This dish originated with the chef’s paternal family, who are Javanese and has become a family tradition that he would like to cherish through this buffet dinner.
Chef Firdaus Atan, anak kampung Shah Alam, Selangor presents Rendang Ayam Kampung Pedas. Growing up experiencing flavourful city-made rendang, Chef Firdaus brings his homemade recipes into creation for the buffet spread. Rendang Ayam Kampung Pedas is a yearly festive dish at Chef Firdaus’s home and he would like to share the merriment at The Westin Kuala Lumpur buffet dinner. This specially made recipe has a twist to it adding vibrant colour and flavour. It is a greenish-hued rendang with a piquant and bold taste of spices.
Anak kampung Teluk Intan, Chef Emy Fairuz presents his hometown flavours through Kerabu Perut Bunga Kantan to whet diners appetite. This kampung dish is his family’s traditional food for every occassion.
Chef Syeriff Hafizal, anak kampung Tebrau, Johor brings his signature village dish, Sup Kambing Merah Berempah – Lamb Gearbox, enhancing the buffet spread. The aromatic Sup Tulang Merah has been a celebratory dish since his childhood and is close to the chef’s heart. And Chef Syeriff is giving a unique twist by having Lamb Gearbox instead of the common beef gearbox due to the high demand for lamb dishes by diners during this special month. The lamb is slow-braised for at least 6 to 10 hours to tender perfection before serving to the guest.
Chef Sheikh Muzaffar, anak kampung Serting Ulu, Negeri Sembilan presents Daging Salai Masak Lemak Cili Padi. Originating from Negeri Sembilan, this traditional dish is popular for being very spicy with a great fistful of bird’s eye chili. It is uniquely cooked on an open wood fire to smoke the beef adding flavours and aromas.
In addition to the Anak Kampung signatures, there will also be soup counter, Chinese delicacies, kid’s favourites, noodle station, pastries, desserts, the well-known bubur lambuk and many more exciting delights.
To accompany all these sumptuous treats, The Living Room has also crafted an expansive list of drinks we used to find in kampung such as Teh Tarik, Nescafe Tarik, Air Tebu, Air Jagung and many more.
The culinary team at The Living Room has gone to great lengths to offer a unique kampung culinary experience with a spectacular mix of local favourites coupled with some modern international specialties. Diners are definitely in for a traditional treat as they walk through the buffet counters in a kampung setting.
