After months of sacrifice and unprecedented efforts in the fight against COVID-19 since the 18th March MCO, welcome news arrived on 22nd June 2020 in the form of an official announcement by our Senior Minister (Security), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, which gave avid moviegoers a reason to celebrate. In the official statement, the green light was given to cinemas to finally reopen their doors and provide a joyous welcome back to those who missed experiencing movies on the big screen. However, it is of utmost importance that safety measures are diligently observed and collective responsibility is promoted and practised whilst enjoying the movies.
Enhanced Safety Measures
TGV Cinemas ensures peace-of-mind cinematic moments as they place our patrons’ safety as their top priority. Following Government guidelines, their enhanced safety program will govern everything they do upon reopening. There will be an emphasis on stringent processes and procedures as well as education and awareness.
The enhanced safety measures which will be carried out include:
Customer Entry (Safety Protocols)
1. No entry for guests above 37.5° Celsius
2. Check-in for tracing purposes via MySejahtera
3. Only guests above 12 and below 60 are permitted into the cinema
Social Distance Practices
1. 1-metre social distance markers at queue areas
2. Alternate ticket and concession counters open
3. Cashless payment modes are encouraged
4. Alternate urinals available
5. Crowd management procedures
Sanitisation Procedures
1. Sanitisation 3 times daily
2. Hand sanitisers readily available
3. Extended cleaning of halls after movies
Staff and Food Preparation Safety
1. F&B offerings are prepared to high standards of hygiene
2. Staff to wear masks at all times
3. Staff daily health screening & observation of personal hygiene practices at all times
Social Distance Seating
The joy of the cinema not only stems from the enjoyment of watching a movie on the big screen but also experiencing it together with a community of like-minded fans. In the present environment, with the “new normal” in practice, TGV will be implementing Social Distance Seating which ensures a minimum 1-metre gap in line with Government guidelines. This is to reinforce social distancing and to ensure that everybody enjoys their experience in safety whilst still being in the company of fellow fans. When selecting seats, patrons will notice that they can only select alternate seats from every other patron.

Reopening Movies
Cinemas would be incomplete without blockbuster movies. Cinemas have been dark for a few months, but movie fans will be delighted to know that new movies will be released in the month of July when they reopen. Key titles include the sequel to Train to Busan: Peninsula, Kaiji: Final Game, and Low Season.
“We can see the light at the end of the tunnel. We are thrilled to finally be back to once again bring joyful and memorable experiences to all our fans after enduring trying times. Entertaining and delighting our patrons are always top of mind but we must not lose sight of our immediate priority, which is ensuring maximum safety standards are practised. The well-being of our guests is imperative and will always take precedence with no compromises on customer safety,” remarked Yeoh Oon Lai, CEO of TGV Cinemas.
New circumstances have pushed businesses and cinemas alike to adapt to the current conditions and TGV is reopening with a promise to their fans to be even better than ever. Advocacy, education, and friendly enforcement will ensure safe cinematic experiences – TGV will promote safety as a collective responsibility, and they hope that theirr community of fans will spread the message as they promote high personal hygiene and safety protocols.
