It’s a Thai takeover at The Living Room as The Westin Kuala Lumpur’s all-day dining restaurant hosts Thai guest chef, Surachai Pleanbumrung, from the sister Hotel, Royal Orchid Sheraton Bangkok for a week.

A culinary cuisine that is well-loved by Malaysians and throughout the world, its cuisine is heavily influence by Indian and Chinese cultures. Fresh herbs and spices including garlic, coriander, lemongrass, mint and chillies, are essential ingredients in a Thai dish.

Chef Surachai’s dishes offered on the buffet are prepared from recipes that have been handed down through generations and adjusted to suit the tastes of modern diners.

Chef Surachai’s specially created menu features a range of Thai favourite dishes including some authentic dishes popular amongst the people of Thailand. Highlights from the spread will include appetisers, soups, curries, and desserts.

Ma Hor (Galloping Horses)
Tasty Thai appetiser, named in honour of King Rama VII’s excellent horsemanship. The sweet and sticky caramelised minced chicken is topped on segments of fresh pineapple or tangerine and garnished with a coriander leaf and thinly sliced red chilli.

Som Tam (Green Papaya Salad)
A popular Thai salad made from shredded green papaya mixed with chilli peppers, tomatoes, garlic, lime juice, fish sauce, and peanuts, offering a balance of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy flavours.

The varieties are plentiful and can include various additions. The sauce can also appear in many other combinations, and can significantly vary in sweetness and spiciness. Numerous restaurants and street stalls allow the customers to choose the variety they prefer and adjust the ingredients to their preference. It can be enjoyed as the main dish or as a complement to rice, grilled meat, or marinated fish.

Phad Thai Goong Sod (Stir-fried noodles with prawns)
A classic Thai stir-fried noodle dish with shrimp, rice noodles, tofu, bean sprouts, peanuts, egg, and a tangy sauce made from tamarind, fish sauce, garlic, and chilli.

Beef Massaman Curry (Thai curry made with tender beef or chicken)
Massaman curry is known for its complex flavour profile, which combines elements of Thai, Malay, and Indian cuisines. It offers a balance of sweet, savoury, and spicy flavours, with a hint of tanginess from ingredients like tamarind.

The key ingredients in Massaman curry include tender pieces of meat (commonly beef or chicken) potatoes, onions, and peanuts. The curry is made using a paste composed of various spices such as cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, cumin, coriander seeds, and nutmeg, along with garlic, shallots, lemongrass, galangal, and Thai chillies. Coconut milk serves as the creamy base for the curry, adding richness to the dish.

Tom Kha Gai (Thai Coconut Chicken Soup)
A popular Thai soup featuring tender chicken cooked in a creamy broth made from coconut milk, flavoured with galangal, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, and Thai chillies, resulting in a rich and aromatic dish.

Khao Niew Mamuang (Mango Sticky Rice)
A well-loved Thai dessert made with sweet glutinous rice, topped with ripe mango slices, and drizzled with a coconut milk sauce infused with sugar and salt, creating a delightful blend of flavours and textures.

The buffet will not be limited to just these dishes as Chef Surachai will be serving over 20 types of dishes ranging from appetisers to soups, main course and desserts on a rotational basis on the buffet line. Diners can indulge in up to 14 different dishes at any one time during the buffet for a wholesome dining experience.
