There’s something about a hotel stay where you know pretty quickly whether you’re going to enjoy it. For me, it was the moment I walked into my room at Le Méridien Petaling Jaya.
I was there over the weekend for a little break, and honestly, everything just felt right. The room was a really good size, the bed was ridiculously comfortable (the kind where you suddenly don’t feel like going anywhere), and all the little amenities were there without the room feeling cluttered.

What I also liked was that the hotel didn’t feel like it was trying too hard to be luxurious. There are little touches of the Le Méridien identity throughout the property — from the mid-century modern design to the Malaysian-inspired artwork and marble bathrooms. The rooms also come with MALIN+GOETZ bath amenities, which is always a nice touch.
And then there was the food — which, if you know me, was always going to be an important part of the review.
Between breakfast, the Seafood Royale Dinner Buffet at Pasar Baru and the high tea, I definitely did not leave the hotel hungry.
So, here’s how my weekend went.
The Room: Just The Right Size

The first thing I noticed about the room was the size but this was after I took a quick nap as the king bed was so inviting.
Anyway, the room was spacious without feeling unnecessarily huge, and there was enough room to move around comfortably, opened my luggage and actually felt ike I was staying in a hotel rather than temporarily occupying a very nicely decorated cupboard.
The design is quite understated, with Le Méridien’s signature mid-century modern influence, combined with Malaysian touches. The hotel describes its rooms as having bamboo flooring, marble-clad bathrooms and curated Malaysian-inspired artwork, and I think those details help give the room a bit more personality.
But honestly, the bed was what won me over.
It was super comfortable — the kind of comfortable where you tell yourself you’re just going to lie down for five minutes and then suddenly realise you’ve been there for an hour.
The amenities were also on point. Everything I needed was there, and nothing felt excessive or unnecessary.
It was just a very comfortable room.
And sometimes that’s exactly what you want from a hotel.
A Hotel That Has Quite A Lot Going On
One thing I realised during the stay is that Le Méridien PJ isn’t really just a place to sleep.
The hotel is connected to Paradigm Mall, so you’ve got shopping and plenty of options right downstairs which made me frequent it more than 5 days on the first day I was there, while the hotel itself has several dining and lifestyle spaces. The property also has a rooftop infinity pool and a fitness centre with panoramic views.

There’s also PJ’s Bar & Grill on the 30th floor, which the hotel describes as the largest rooftop bar in Petaling Jaya, complete with skyline views, a rooftop infinity pool and a private cigar lounge.
I didn’t manage to try everything during this particular stay — which just means I have an excuse to come back.
Breakfast: Start The Day Hungry

Breakfast at the hotel was another highlight.
I’m always a little suspicious when hotels describe their breakfast as having a “wide selection” because sometimes that means there are 15 dishes that somehow all taste the same.
Thankfully, this wasn’t that.
There was a good variety of local and international options, so whether you’re looking for something heavier, something lighter, something sweet or just need coffee before speaking to anyone, there was plenty to choose from.
I liked that there was enough variety to make breakfast feel like an actual meal rather than something you grab quickly before heading out.
And because I was staying in for the weekend, I wasn’t in a rush.
So naturally, breakfast became a fairly long affair.
Dinner at Pasar Baru: Seafood Royale

Now, this was the meal I was particularly looking forward to.
Dinner was at Pasar Baru, Le Méridien PJ’s all-day dining restaurant. The restaurant itself has a market-inspired setting and celebrates Malaysia’s multicultural food culture, with Malay, Chinese and Indian influences woven into its menu.
But for the weekend, seafood was taking centre stage.
The Seafood Royale Dinner Buffet runs every Saturday from July to September 2026, from 6.30pm to 10.30pm, and it really does live up to the seafood theme.
And my strategy was very simple:
Find the crab. Find the oysters. Find the salmon.
In that order.
The Crab
The live mud crabs were obviously one of the first things I went for.
There were several crab preparations available, including the Sweet Chili Mud Crab served with mantou, as well as steamed crab meat and oyster porridge.
The sweet chilli version with mantou was particularly good if you like that combination of sweet, savoury and slightly spicy flavours.
And yes, I went back for more crab.
Obviously.
Oysters, Please
Then came the oysters.
The buffet has freshly shucked oysters, so this was another one of my personal highlights. There’s something about having oysters freshly shucked at a buffet that makes it feel a little more indulgent.
And when I’m at a buffet, I’m not going to pretend I didn’t go back for seconds.
Or thirds.
And The Salmon
The Atlantic Baked Salmon was another standout for me.
But what I liked about the Seafood Royale buffet was that it wasn’t just crab, oysters and salmon sitting on ice.
There was also freshly sliced assorted sashimi, seafood chowder and an interactive grill station where you could choose seafood such as prawns, tilapia and squid to be cooked fresh to order.
So even if seafood isn’t the only thing you’re after, there’s plenty of choice.
And that was probably my favourite thing about the buffet — the variety.
There was enough food to keep everyone happy, whether you’re there for the seafood, the cooked dishes, something from the grill or just want to try a bit of everything.
High Tea Because One Buffet Wasn’t Enough

And then, because apparently I hadn’t eaten enough, I also tried the high tea buffet at Pasar Baru.
The high tea has a nice mix of sweet and savoury selections, with flavours that lean into the region rather than just giving you the usual predictable hotel high-tea spread.
This is probably what I enjoyed about the dining at Le Méridien PJ in general. There’s an effort to bring Malaysian and Southeast Asian flavours into the experience rather than making everything feel generic.
The hotel itself talks about combining its European heritage with Malaysian character, and I think you can see that idea coming through in the food as well as the design.
So, Would I Stay Again?
Yes.
For me, Le Méridien Petaling Jaya got the important things right.
The room was spacious, comfortable and well equipped. The bed was really good. The amenities were thoughtful. The location is convenient, especially with Paradigm Mall connected to the hotel.
And then there is the food.
Between breakfast, the Seafood Royale dinner and the high tea, I basically spent my weekend eating my way through Pasar Baru.
No complaints there.
What I liked most about the stay was that it felt easy. I didn’t have to overthink anything. The room was comfortable, there was plenty to eat, there were things to do within the hotel and mall, and I could just switch off for the weekend.
Sometimes that’s exactly what you want from a staycation.
Good room. Comfortable bed. Good food. No drama.
I’ll take that.
And yes, I would probably come back for the crab.
P.S. The Seafood Royale Dinner Buffet is available every Saturday from July to September 2026, from 6.30pm to 10.30pm. The current published price is RM198 per adult, with Maybank card promotions available during the promotion period.
