Chinese New Year (CNY) season is right around the corner and while Malaysians from all walks of life gather to celebrate, foodies, in particular, are set to rejoice with yet another festive celebration thanks to the variety of tasty treats to snack on. Icon Brewings, a local cafe nestled in Cheras has pounced on the opportunity to introduce a new mouth-watering treat for this festive season – the Ang Pao Strudel series.
Icon Brewings is already famous for its crumbly and flaky strudels that have captured the attention and tastebuds of diners, with their Classic Fruit Strudels receiving rave reviews for months.
Now, Icon Brewings is looking to spice up its offerings by incorporating a traditional feel-good CNY mood to their original fruit strudels. The limited-time series sports a prosperous red flaky pastry made naturally by infusing beetroot. The pastry crusts are sandwiched between layers of creamy sweet custard and topped with juicy fresh fruits with a sprinkle of icing sugar.
The Ang Pao Strudle series comes in Mango, Kiwi, Strawberry, Peach and Blueberry flavours. It can be bought individually at RM 18 per strudel or in a set of 5 for RM80.00. Commenting on their trademark strudels, the Founder of Icon Brewings, Nicolas Lim said, “Icon Brewings is always looking to excite our customers and dessert lovers with high-quality treats.
We have already done so for months now with our Classic Fruit Sturdles and now we are pleased to share even more adventurous takes. As such, we are happy to deliver the new Ang Pao Strudels Series this festive season. The red-packet strudel is symbolic of the prosperity and celebration of the occasion, this is a special year for all those who are celebrating, and we wanted to commemorate it in our very own way.”
Famed for the fruit strudel, Icon Brewings also recently introduced a Tea Strudel series to appeal to the growing tea-lover population in Malaysia the Tea Strudel series layers the conventional Icon Brewings strudel with a thick and scrumptious helping of tea-inspired flavours and accompaniments. These flavours include some of Malaysian’s favourite tea flavours including-Lychee rose strudel, earl grey strudel, houjicha strudel, matcha strudel and even a Thai-Milk tea strudel. This tea-riffic treat starts from RM 22 per strudel or RM100 for a box of 5 strudels.
Beyond exciting new flavours, Icon Brewings is quickly becoming a household name to pastry aficionados around the Klang Valley for their buttery and light strudels which deliver a satisfying crunch that is signature to all the very best strudels. This exquisite eating experience has been achieved through freshly double-baked pastry which delivers that crusty and flaky crunch. The iconic original flavour strudels feature a vibrant mix of tropical and berry fruits including Mango, Kiwi, Strawberry, Peach and Blueberry.
Nestled in Cheras, Icon Brewings began as an interior design showroom, featuring modern contemporary designs whilst also acting as a gathering spot for industry artists and designers. Inspired by his love for food, in 2017 Nicolas Lim took the decision to slowly transform his space into a cafe and eatery that would feature the hot beverages and sweet treats that had long been his favourites. The space now offers an exciting blend of premium coffee as well as a fusion of western and Asian food alongside a variety of cakes and pastries. Icon Brewings is also Muslim friendly, not serving any pork and alcohol.
“Aside from my passion for interior design, I am a coffee lover as well. So naturally, when I saw an appetite for our food, I leapt at the chance to further expand my foray into food. We had been exploring a variety of food options and last March we baked our first batch of strudels. It was an instant hit with customers who loved the presentation, eating experience and most importantly the delicious taste. The rest as they say is history,” said Nicolas.
