Don’t you find it amazing that humans can make a movie out of almost any theme or topic? Though the mundane tales of love, deceit, and several others continue to prevail in most films, creating a feature about natural disasters perhaps became a new excitement for movie makers.

The challenge of recreating a flood, an earthquake or even volcano eruptions seem to have found its own niche and following.

This is essentially true in the movie Twisters. The movie which is a reboot or perhaps, more of a remake of the original Twister film in 1996, shows how some of the world’s population have to adapt to regular occurences of tornadoes.

Although it is not a common phenomenon for most, but in many parts of the USA hurricanes are one too many. What we see on the news is usually the aftermath of such calamities and in Twisters we are given a fictional inside look into this disaster.

This time, the tale depicts the story of Kate Carter who is a ‘natural storm chaser’. She has an immense passion for the weather and being an Oklahoma native, she is used to dealing with frequent tornado appearances.

After losing her boyfriend and some close friends while trying to conduct a research on tornadoes, Carter becomes scarred and traumatized as she eventually steps out of storm-chasing and works a desk job at the New York National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) upon graduation.

However one of her old team mates Javi who survived the horrific tornado during the research activity in college contacts her, asking her to help him in his new project which is now funded by a corporate investor.

Javi who is also passionate about the weather shares the same interest and goal with Carter. They aim to find ways to subdue or theoratically stop tornadoes from progressing and destroying more lives.

As they both continue to work together once more and return to Oklahoma, they are interrupted by the presence of Tyler Owens, a famous YouTuber who is given the nick ‘Tornado Wrangler’. He and his band of misfits are known to chase tornadoes as a sport and post them on their YouTube channel while making a reasonable amount of income.

As Javi and Carter constantly collide with Owens and his gang, they then end up discovering a lot more about these tornadoes as well as each others’ real intentions of storm chasing.

Though the movie deserves and applause for the amazing visual effects in depicting the calamity, the storyline is relatively simple. Romantic elements are still inevitable (just like the first Twister without the ending’s’).

Simply given a more contemporary take to how people would deal with such phenomena, the movie is good wholesome entertainment for friends and family.

It also gives viewers ideas on a different kind of past time depicted in the movie. Though storm chasing isn’t exactly the safest sport or activity to indulge in, it has become an unexpectedly popular travel activity for many.

As tornadoes often offer breath-taking visual captures, they also occur in places with beautiful landscapes. These vistas are nicely portrayed in the movie. So who knows? You may just get an idea of where to go and what to do on your next travel escapade after seeing this movie.

To find more about the beautiful locations featured in the film, watch it today as Twisters has been showing in all Malaysian cinemas since July 19th.
