As the world takes a pause on travel, Outrigger Resorts is now bringing the music of Hawaii to homes around the world with nightly jam sessions from award-winning artists who traditionally performed at Kani Ka Pila Grille on the beach front at Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort. This programming is part of the #OutriggerCARES initiative that supports hosts and communities in which the brand operates.

Every night starting at *5 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time (HST), Outrigger hosts a live concert via Outrigger Resorts’ Facebook page for music fans and future travelers to enjoy from the comfort of their homes.

Outrigger LIVE: Kani Ka Pila Music Jam began as a pilot in March, but with thousands of viewers each week from across
the globe, it became a nightly fixture featuring the beloved musicians. There’s even a “virtual tip jar” within the comments section on its Facebook page to raise funds for the performing artists. The brand also has a partnership with the Henry Kapono Foundation that supports Hawaii musicians, many of whom are unable to work during this pandemic.

“The Outrigger LIVE: Kani Ka Pila Music Jam reminds me of when I was a kid and my family had jam sessions at our house,” said Luana Maitland, cultural director at Outrigger Hospitality Group. “Music soothes the soul and heals the heart; during this time of uncertainty, we all need a bit of that.”

Statement from performing artist, Kawika Kahiapo:
“As a touring artist and regular performer at Kani Ka Pila Grill, I am always amazed at how many ‘out-of- town’ fans seek us out. Year after year, many of them schedule trips, come to the venue and take in the live performances we offer; it’s their way of getting a ‘touch of Aloha.’ During this pandemic, in partnership with Outrigger Resorts and the magic of the Internet, I have been getting responses from around the world during my live stream. Responses such as: ‘I am missing the islands,’ ‘I can feel the spirit of aloha through the music and slack key,’ ‘I can’t wait to return to the islands.’ While I’m performing live, quotes like these constantly stream on my screen from countries including Australia, Japan, Paris, Canada, New Zealand, Spain, Brazil and of course America. I try to keep up with responses and requests, but sometimes it flows too quickly on the screen. As an ambassador of Hawaiian music, it brings me pure joy to deliver ‘Aloha’ to these long distance lovers of Hawaiian music.”

The core lineup is included below with variations from week-to-week and special guests such as Henry Kapono and Bobby Moderow. *Performances begin at 5pm HST unless otherwise noted.
