An unforgettable afternoon of heritage, harmony, and high tea unfolded at The Rumah Peranakan Entertainment Centre as The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur joined hands with the Persatuan Peranakan Baba Nyonya Kuala Lumpur & Selangor to host Mari Minum Teh dan Belajar Joget , a vibrant celebration of the Baba Nyonya legacy.

Guests were transported into the heart of Peranakan culture through taste, texture, and tradition. The event featured authentic Nyonya teatime favourites, handcrafted from heirloom recipes and served alongside a specially curated menu by The Saujana’s chefs — who were trained by Nyonya culinary experts in the art of ancestral flavours.

Adding to the colourful tapestry of the event were displays of exquisite hand-embroidered kebaya nyonya, beaded slippers, accessories such as kerongsang and vibrant kebaya and sarong lovingly created by local artisans , a visual feast that reflected the elegance and craftsmanship of a timeless tradition.

“This event is not only about food; it’s about honouring a way of life passed down through generations,” said Jasmine Ong Li, General Manager of The Saujana Hotel.

“Each dish tells a story, just like every thread in a kebaya or bead in a shoe reflects history and identity. We are deeply inspired by the intricate beauty of Peranakan textiles and embroidery, and we are proud to offer a platform where this heritage can shine.”

“As this is our first time holding an event with this theme, I am happy to see everyone enjoying themselves, especially the ladies who came all dressed up in their Kebaya. We definitely plan to continue this, especially leading to the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 programme next year. We have more events planned so please stay tuned,” added Ong Li.

She also hopes that it will create awareness of the Peranakan culture and heritage, while showcasing the joget dance as well as the food and cuisine passed down as knowledge to their guests.

Guests also took part in a joyful Belajar Joget session where traditional dance became a bridge between cultures and generations, embodying the cheerful spirit of the Peranakan people.

“Our heritage lives in the kitchens, in the courtyards, and in the vibrant fabrics we wear,” shared Baba Albert, cultural custodian and a key partner in the initiative. “From the detailed embroidery of a kebaya to the spices in a simmering dish, every element carries stories of love, resilience, and movement. Through this collaboration, those stories are being brought to life, stories that are colourful, proud, and full of flavour.”

The event marks the start of a hopefully long-term partnership between The Saujana Hotel and the Persatuan Peranakan Baba Nyonya KL & Selangor , one that promises to bring heritage hospitality to the forefront of cultural tourism in Malaysia.
