As Malaysia prepares to unveil Visit Malaysia 2026, The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur rises to the occasion as a proud advocate for one of the nation’s most treasured cultural identities: the Peranakan heritage.

In a landmark collaboration with the Persatuan Peranakan Baba Nyonya Kuala Lumpur & Selangor (PPBNKLS), the hotel unveils “Baba Nyonya Heritage at The Saujana Hotel KL”, a movement that transcends cuisine, championing tradition through culinary craft, cultural immersion, and storytelling with soul.

At the heart of this movement lies a deeply personal story—one carried by Ms Jasmine Ong Li, General Manager of The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

“Today, I do not speak merely as a hotelier, but as a granddaughter of this vibrant culture. I still keep my Ah Ma’s hand-stitched kebaya and her batu giling used to grind rempah. These are not just heirlooms— they are my identity. Through this initiative, I carry her legacy forward—itu warisan jiwa.” – Ms Jasmine Ong Li, General Manager, The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur .

Under the guidance of PPBNKLS, the hotel’s culinary team has undergone an authentic immersion into Peranakan cooking, learning to master the intricate techniques, spices, and rituals that define the cuisine.

“Our collaboration with The Saujana is rooted in shared purpose—to safeguard and elevate Peranakan heritage for generations to come.

This is not just food on a plate; it’s a narrative in every bite,” – Ms.Vivienne Lee, President of PPBNKLS

For the month of May 2025, Charcoal Restaurant and multiple touchpoints across the resort will host the “Baba Nyonya Heritage at The Saujana Hotel KL” movement—a curated experience blending age- old recipes with modern hospitality. The collaboration serves not just as a dining event but as a national call to action to recognize Peranakan cuisine and culture as a vital pillar of Malaysia’s living heritage.

As the centrepiece of this culinary journey, Charcoal Restaurant will debut a curated menu of classic Baba Nyonya cuisine. Dishes such as Ayam Buah KeluakCincaru Sumbat, and Lobak Masak Lemak are not merely items on a menu—they are edible artefacts of ancestry, carefully crafted with historical accuracy and culinary reverence.

More Than a Menu—A Movement in Motion

The initiative will feature:

•        •  Authentic Peranakan Set Menus & À la Carte Delights at Charcoal Restaurant

•        •  “Spice it Up with Baba” Demo Series featuring Baba Albert and special guests

•        •  Traditional Cendol Weekends at Golfers Terrace with staff in full Baba Nyonya attire

•        •  Baba Nyonya Tea Break Upgrades for meeting and banquet packages

•        •  Weekend Pop-Ups, Joget Workshops, and Cultural Performances at RP Entertainment Centre
