Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay’s Mosaic presentations have always been a celebration of the best music performed live by the most creative artists around the world. Since Oct 2004, music lovers in Singapore have been treated to over a thousand ticketed and free performances by exceptional musicians at various venues at the Esplanade. What began with a focus on jazz and world music has progressively expanded to include presentations of alternative, indie and so many more music genres. The Mosaic brand has evolved from the festival format of presentations—the 10-day Mosaic Music Festival (from 2005 to 2014) and the four-day Mosaic Music Weekend (in 2016) which helped them build a loyal pool of music fans—to the more regular presentations of Mosaic Music Series (since 2004) which gave audiences opportunities to catch some of their favourite acts or be introduced to new musicians throughout the year.
The series format of presentations has allowed them more flexibility in terms of working with international and regional musicians who are touring the region and ensuring that they make a pit stop in Singapore, and at the same time, continued to provide opportunities for audiences to discover new artists, especially the young and up-and-coming ones, and cultivate an interest in a variety of music genres through Mosaic Music Series. Their homegrown artists have also benefitted from the exposure to these international presentations as well as opportunities to open for some of the artists.
Besides presenting performances, over the years they have also introduced initiatives such as Mosaic Jazz Fellows mentorship programme and Mosaic Associate Artists programme under the Mosaic brand to develop and support the Singapore music scene.
In the first quarter of 2020, they have lined up seven exciting Mosaic Music Series presentations, of which three are going on sale today!
• Contemporary classical icon Ludovico Einaudi (Italy) makes his Singapore debut on 28 Jan.
• Mosaic Associate Artist The Steve McQueens (Singapore) presents an evening of brand new songs in Nerd Lounge on 14 Feb. They will subsequently go on tour for Japan’s Big Romantic Jazz Festival in Tokyo and Indonesia’s Java Jazz. Mosaic Associate Artists are exceptional musicians at the forefront of their genres, whom Esplanade has committed to providing tailored, intensive support.
